East Gosford sits on the eastern side of the Brisbane Water arm, with the foreshore on one side and the ground rising towards the Rumbalara bushland on the other. It carries some of the oldest residential stock in the region — Federation and interwar cottages, a strong run of postwar and 1960s brick, and newer townhouses filling in behind the shops.

People do not think of East Gosford as a coastal address, and that is exactly the problem. Brisbane Water is brackish, calm and humid, and calm marine water is treated as its own exposure category in steel selection guidance — separate from surf, with its own distance thresholds.

The practical effect is slow corrosion in the places rain never reaches: inside the gutter trough, under wide eaves, behind fascia, and at the fixings. We regularly find a serviceable roof sitting above a gutter line that has quietly rusted through at the joints. Gutter repair and replacement is a large share of our work here.
