Forest country, creek flats, and a lot of leaves
Ourimbah sits where the hinterland properly begins — Ourimbah Creek through the valley, state forest on the ranges behind, the university campus on the rise, and blocks that range from standard suburban lots to genuine acreage under heavy canopy.
There is no salt problem here at all. We do not specify marine-grade hardware in Ourimbah and we will tell you so if somebody has quoted you for it. The problem here is organic and it is relentless.

Why Ourimbah roofs leak
Almost always because water could not get away, not because something broke.
- Valleys pack solid with eucalypt leaves, bark strips and seed capsules. The litter holds water against the valley iron and corrodes it from the underside, where nobody looks.
- Gutters lose half their depth to compacted debris and start overflowing backwards under the first row of tiles.
- Downpipes choke at the top bend, invisible from the ground, and the gutter above them stays full.
- Moss and lichen grow year round on shaded faces, keeping the tile surface and the ridge bedding permanently damp.
- Branch and debris impact during heavy weather, which on an acreage block can mean a genuinely damaged section of roof.
Metal makes sense on a bush block
When an Ourimbah roof reaches the end of its life, metal sheeting is often the better replacement than tile. It sheds leaf litter far more readily, there are fewer places for debris to lodge, and a continuous run has fewer joins to fail. Corrosion grade is a non-issue this far from the water, so the spend goes into profile, pitch and valley detail instead.
Leaf guard, honestly
Leaf guard is genuinely worth it here, and it does not make the roof maintenance-free. What it does is turn clearing a packed trough into brushing a surface, and it keeps the valley mouths open. Mesh aperture should be chosen for what is actually falling on your roof. Where a block is on bushfire prone land and bushfire construction requirements apply, the guard needs to be non-combustible — tell us and we will specify it that way. See gutter repair and replacement.
